For the Love of Scotch

I do not believe in any way it is an overstatement to say that Scotch Whiskey is one of the fine pleasures of life. It's taste demands acquiring but the effort is oh so worth it. When it comes to familiarizing oneself with the liquor, most advise against smoky aromas in favour of more traditional ones.

From my personal experience, such statements do not fit everyone. I personally needed the uniqueness of earthy smoky flavours to surpass my disdain of high alcohol concentrations. The first Scotch I ever truly enjoyed was the Lagavulin 16 years. With time, my pallet stopped noticing the burning feeling of ethanol and dug deeper into the rich aromas fine Single Malt Scotch/Whiskey offers.

Today, my horizons in terms of Scotch have widened and I no longer need smoke to enjoy my liquor. As a matter of fact my favourite is now the Aberlour A'bunadh Cask Strength (I must recommend if you haven't tried already).

In the wonderful world of liquor, it truly isn't about the end, but about the journey. One must admit what he enjoys, and be open to have his opinions altered. Perhaps this applies to more than just Scotch...
